The first ever Himalayan ice core lab being established in Kashmir University will provide data about the climatic history of Kashmir of thousands of years and help scientists in having a better understanding of the valleys past. The ice core laboratory is a facility for storing curating and studying meteoric ice cores recovered from different glaciers Our cold storage building contains three freezer compartments with rack storage units which are maintained at -20 to -25. The freezer facility has two main compressors and a backup compressor. Ice core processing such as cutting and pre-preparation of samples for lab analyses as well as various analytical measurements on solid ice such as stratigraphy and structure studies are conducted in the one cold lab attached the deep storage unit.
