RIEGL VZ-2000i Terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) is a powerful tool for studying glaciers and their dynamics.  This instrument is used in HCRL Kashmir University for Glacier surface topography and change detection by providing high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) of glacier surfaces, which is further used to study glacier morphology and changes over time, by comparing DEMs from different time periods. TLS is also used to estimate the volume of a glacier by scanning the glacier surface and creating a 3D model. The volume of a glacier is an important parameter for estimating its mass balance. Inclusive, TLS is a valuable tool for studying glaciers and their dynamics, providing detailed information on glacier surface topography, volume, deformation, flow, calving, and hydrology.
